“I will not be attending this year’s convention, nor any Republican convention in the future until the party focuses on a bigger, bolder, more confident future for the United States — a future based on problem solving, inclusiveness, and a willingness to address the trust deficit, which is every bit as corrosive as our fiscal and economic deficits.”
- Jon Huntsman, July 6, 2012. Huntsman was a former 2012 presidential candidate, ambassador to China (2009-2011), and Governor of Utah (2005-2009).

- Context: Jon Huntsman describes his beliefs as “center-right”. During his campaign, he was unapologetic about his moderate views. His acceptance of evolution and global warming, along with his positions on immigration, cap-and-trade legislation, and gay rights turned off many in the Republican base. He has stated that the more radical Republican politicians become, the less electable they become, and that if the party stands against science and reason, it is putting itself in a losing position.
