Flat-Out Lies

August 1, 2012 § Leave a comment

“What he said was not what the Republicans said. Once again, we put something on the air that’s a flat-out lie.”

  • Bob Beckel, political analyst and commentator for Fox News, July 31, 2012
  • Source: The Five on Fox News (video)
  • Context: In this segment, they play Scott Browns political ad, which once again uses an out of context sound bite of Obama’s speech in Roanoke, Virginia, making it appear as though he is saying that business owners did not build their own businesses. The other commentators are quick to defend the use of the out of context sound bite, and none of them seem to understand why it is not acceptable. Even after Beckel, once again, states that it is taken out of context, one of the hosts says that the full speech is even worse.
