A Racist Organization

September 15, 2012 § Leave a comment

“Besides slavery, abortion is the other darkest stain on our nation’s character. And this president is looking for every way possible to make abortion more available and more frequent, and he wants you to pay for it — even if you disagree with it. Welcome to another provision of Obamacare.

I am the adoptive father of four children, each of them either — each of them either black, Hispanic, Native American, and I am incensed that this president pays money to an entity that was created for the sole purpose of killing children that look like mine — a racist organization, and it continues specifically to target minorities for abortion destruction.”

Furthermore, federal funding cannot be (by law) and is not used to fund Planned Parenthood’s abortion services.

  • Context: During his race for the U.S. Senate against Ted Kennedy in 1994, Romney did an interview with an LGBT paper where he showed his enthusiasm and support for gay rights. As a 2012 presidential contender, however, Romney is now opposed to gay marriage and other LGBT issues. In the same article, he also talks about his support for abortion, saying:

“My mom was a U.S. Senate candidate in 1970, before Roe v. Wade. My church feels that abortion is not a good choice. However, my mother advocated for the legalization of abortion. So they, like I, can live by and have personal beliefs which celebrate the diversity of our society, and fight for the right of all people to live by their own beliefs and to make their own choices.”

A Human Life Amendment

August 21, 2012 § 1 Comment

“Faithful to the ‘self-evident’ truths enshrined in the Declaration of Independence, we assert the sanctity of human life and affirm that the unborn child has a fundamental individual right to life which cannot be infringed. We support a human life amendment to the Constitution and endorse legislation to make clear that the Fourteenth Amendment’s protections apply to unborn children.”

The platform does not make any exceptions for cases of rape, incest, or when the mothers life is in danger. The statement still needs to be approved by the full platform committee on Tuesday and by delegates to the Republican National Convention next week. This leak comes at a bad time for the Republican Party, which is facing tough criticism over Todd Akin’s recent comments on rape.

Legitimate Rape

“First of all, from what I understand from doctors [pregnancy from rape] is really rare. If it’s a legitimate rape, the female body has ways to try to shut that whole thing down.”
