I Probably Don’t Believe

“Everybody has an opinion on it and I probably don’t believe that it’s man made. I believe, you know, that weather elements are controlled by other things.”

  • Jan Brewer, Republican Governor of Arizona, November 30, 2012
  • Source: Arizona Family (with video)
  • Context: Prior to her on energy at the Western Governors Association, Gov. Brewer was asked about her thoughts on climate change, to which she responded that she “probably” didn’t believe it was man made.  This contradicts the scientific consensus within the academic community on anthropogenic, or man made, climate change. In 2011, Brewer issued an executive order pulling Arizona out of the Western Climate Initiative, a multi-state attempt to limit green house gas emissions.

Ignoring the Facts

“The Division of Coastal Management shall be the only State agency authorized to develop rates of sea-level rise and shall do so only at the request of the Commission. These rates shall only be determined using historical data, and these data shall be limited to the time period following the year 1900. Rates of sea-level rise may be extrapolated linearly to estimate future rates of rise but shall not include scenarios of accelerated rates of sea-level rise.”
