  • Context: Bob Corker, on CBS This Morning, is the newest Republican to come out against Grover Norquist’s anti-tax pledge. He now joins a chorus of Republican’s in congress such as Senators Lindsey Graham (R-SC) and Saxy Chambliss (R-GA), along with Representatives Peter KingSteve LaTourette, and Scott Rigell. If Democrats and Republicans cannot agree to a compromise on revenue increases as well as spending cuts by midnight on December 31, 2012, automatic tax increases and spending cuts go into effect, known as the “fiscal cliff”. Norquist has threatened tough re-election’s for politicians who break his pledge.

Edit: Congressman Tom Cole also came out in support of accepting President Obama’s tax plan on November 27, 2012, saying that agreeing to keep taxes low for the middle class while not doing anything about taxes for the top 2% does not constitute a violation of Norquist’s pledge.
